MTNL Launches IPTV system in Delhi

Telecom service provider MTNL and its IPTV (Internet protocol television) franchisee Aksh Optifibre today announced the launch of this next generation television broadcast system in Delhi.
The only
pre-requisites for this service is MTNL Landline telephone with Broadband connectivity.
IPTV describes a system where a digital television service is delivered using the Internet Protocol over a network infrastructure, which may include delivery by a broadband connection. For residential users, IPTV is often provided in conjunction with Video on Demand and may be bundled with Internet services such as Web access and VoIP. The commercial bundling of IPTV, VoIP and Internet access is referred to as a Triple Play. The technology is being touted as the next big thing in broadband and is becoming popular in other countries.
The registration fee for IPTV has been kept at Rs.500 that will be charged in telephone bills. In the promotional period, the service starts at Rs.90 monthly rental where a subscriber gets 30 free-to-air channels and bouquet of Star and Zee networks, while Rs.30 extra would be charged for Sony network.
